We just received a call from the bank. After reviewing the tapes, the investigator came to the conclusion that the person who cashed the checks was not the wife. Gee, really? 3 weeks to come to this conclusion? The funds will be credited to the account but won’t be available to us before Tuesday. In the meantime, I opened a new account in a different bank where they have a little more protection than just look at 2 pieces of identification and giving money to a total stranger.

This said, I am happy we’re getting a happy ending and a month’s salary back but we’re leaving a bank we loved. Time to move on.

OK, maybe this is a little exaggerated, since for many it’s payday and for even more, the beginning of the weekend.

I get paid on Thursdays. Yes, it’s absolutely cool since I get to tease those who do get paid on Fridays and also because I think it is quite original. And with my woes and a little help of Mr. Murphy, the part of my paycheck that goes into the joint account to pay the bills and whatnot did go into the account when I had asked payroll NOT to send the money. When I got my pay stub and I saw with horror that the money went in the account, I naturally became upset. No matter what I said, to payroll, they did what they had to do and that’s it. No way to recall the money or anything.

I called the wife who called the bank and the investigator was out that day and they still hadn’t received the tapes from the branch to take a look at them. Over a week this has been going on and nothing is happening. I foolishly have contributed to have all that money deposited in the account and nothing is being done. Nobody is really understanding or caring about the fact that it’s already the 3rd day of the month and that bills are due and we cannot keep on tapping the savings in order to live. It’s a pretty good thing I had all that overtime and on-call money because it was really a life-saver. And so we keep waiting to hear from the bank, and the more time goes by, the more I think we’re going to get royally screwed. Good thing they’ve failed and are being bought by another bank…

Today must have been the slowest day of the week and believe me, it was perfect! I was able to take care of some users at my location and I was shy of 2 tickets to match my all-time high of 13. I was a little disappointed but I was still happy to have been able to be so productive today. And the big meeting with all the IT players was not the big thing we thought it was going to be. But at least things are on the right path.

Anyway, as much as I don’t really have anything planned but I don’t really want to stay home either. I was not offered to work this weekend, so I guess I’ll try to find something to do.

I think I need a vacation…

I had a request for a picture of me and I went looking in my vast collection, only to realize in my half-amazement that I don’t have any good pictures of myself. If you have paid attention to my profile picture, it has been the same I think since the day I started this blog. And for those of you who have followed my dumpings (remember, this is a dumpsite!) from another place, I must have had 3, maybe 4 different pictures in the almost 5 years since I opened that place. And while talking with my friend, she had a very valid point: we need to take as many pictures of ourselves so our children can have something to remember us by.  And this is something I should be well aware of, because it is happening to me.  My father passed away when I was 10 and I don’t have that many pictures of him. I remember many years ago, an aunt had a Super-8 movie and my dad appeared in the move for just a few seconds, but it was the first time I saw him move since just before he did. It was a shock because it was unexpected, he was healthy and he was happy. And the movie was damaged just a few days after that, destroying a little spec of my past.

Today, I have children and most of the photos that I have are not flattering. The wife thinks it’s funny to catch me with either food in my mouth or food headed toward my mouth. My daughter would take pictures of me but she would take them from below so it’s almost as if trying to see what’s up my nose. And I really hate posing. I had my portrait at work retaken and the old one removed from the wall where all the employees have their mugshots.

So, although it is already October and soon the new year will be here, I have to make the effort of comply with more ease and willingness when a camera is in vicinity so I can build enough souvenirs for the children.

And also finally change my profile pic.

This morning, I got to work as usual, early enough so I can try and wake up while I am reading my RSS feeds on my phone, music kinda blaring and the lights off except for the bluish light from the sign across the street and the rising sun. I am expecting this day to be a repeat of the day before and there is nothing I can do (except to drop dead) to get out of this. But on the other hand, with all the stress and frustration, I am still enjoying my job and ready to go.

6:57. The alarm goes off and I clock in. I log in my PC and start reading my e-mails. Reports, newsletters, more reports and e-mails from my boss. Sometime late last night, he sends a meeting request. Subject: my performance review. I knew it was up because I’ve been there for 14 months already and I did mention it during our usual Friday phone conference and the boss did acknowledge my request but said he was working on it.

So when I read the e-mail, I was rather unhappy because I could have tried to dress a little better and maybe prepare for whatever question I had to face. I had to go off-site but made sure I did not have too much to take care to make it back in time for the 12:30 meeting.

He was late but it became a very informal thing. He gave me a copy of the document and I was aghast. In all but 2 categories I exceeded expectations and the 2 that I missed, I met the expectations. What did really surprised me was to know I’ve had praises not only from co-workers, but from users across the board. WTH? It was nothing but praises and even from the top honcho. I’ve only been there a year! How am I supposed to do better next year? Of course I have some guidance but to me I am doing what I am paid for and it so happens that I love what I do. And because of all that, I get to get the highest pay increase available. When I figured out how much that turns out to be, it’s not much an hour, but at the end of the year, it’s a pretty nice sum!

I bet my momma would be very proud of her son!

I spend a fair amount of time driving every day. My daily commute is about 50 miles round trip and there are days like today where I need to go to off-site locations and it could be one of the many sites we have in Broward County.

Although most of the time I listen to music in my car, my mind can’t help it but to wander, whether it is whatever bothered me at home, the weather or whatever problem I will get at work. But sometimes, I get an idea for a post and often it is not just an idea but the way I would write it. Obviously, I cannot write it down either on a pad or on my phone. I could use the voice message option on the phone, but I have not really tried that yet and I don’t know for how long I can ramble before saturating the memory. So it is decided: I will get a voice recorder and start recording all my darn thoughts eo when the evening comes and I am face to face with this screen, I don’t find myself unable to remember what the heck was such an interesting subject that I totally forgot.
